Game description:

Released by Sega in 1986 for the Master System, The Circuit (known internationally as World Grand Prix) is a fast-paced Formula One-style racing game. Unlike many racers of its era that focus on beating rival cars to the finish line, The Circuit is a pure time trial. You must complete laps across 12 international tracks before the strict time limit expires, using points earned from successful races to purchase crucial vehicle upgrades.

How to Play

Your objective is to reach the finish line of each track within the allotted time. The default Master System controls use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to steer, with Button 1 and Button 2 (mapped to the Z and X keys) handling your acceleration and braking. As you progress, you earn points based on your remaining time, which can be spent in the shop between races to upgrade your car’s engine, tires, and steering.

Tips

  • Upgrade handling first: Prioritize upgrading your tires and steering early on. Maintaining grip through sharp corners is often more important for saving time than raw top speed.
  • Memorize the tracks: Knowing when a sharp turn is coming allows you to brake early and avoid dramatic, time-consuming crashes that will cost you the race.
