Chinhai is a puzzle game released for the SNES in 1995 by Banpresto and developer Pixel. Rather than traditional stacked Mahjong Solitaire, the game uses a flat board of tiles and follows “Shisenshou” (or Sichuan) rules, challenging players to clear the board by matching pairs of identical tiles along valid paths.
How to Play
The objective is to remove all tiles from the board by matching pairs. You can only match two identical tiles if they can be connected by a continuous line that makes no more than two 90-degree turns without passing through any other tiles.
Use the arrow keys (D-pad) to move your cursor across the board. Press Z (A button) to select a tile, and press X (B button) to cancel a selection. Press Enter (Start) to pause or access the game menu.
Tips
- Work from the outside in: Tiles on the outer edges are easiest to connect because the empty space around the board allows paths to loop around the perimeter.
- Check adjacent pairs first: Tiles that are sitting directly next to each other (either horizontally or vertically) can be matched instantly since the path makes zero turns.
- Plan ahead: Before matching a pair, check if there are four of that tile on the board. Clearing one specific pair might block the only path for the remaining two, leading to a dead end.
