Released by Taito in 1988, Chase H.Q. is a seminal arcade driving game that flipped the racing genre on its head. Instead of competing for first place, players take on the roles of undercover police officers Tony Gibson and Raymond Broady, tasked with hunting down fleeing criminals in a black sports car.
How to Play
Your objective in each stage is to catch up to the target vehicle before the timer expires, then ram it repeatedly until its damage meter fills and the suspect is forced to pull over. In this browser-based arcade version, use 5 to insert coins and 1 to start. Steer, accelerate, and brake with the Arrow Keys. Use the action buttons (typically mapped to Z, X, or C) to shift between low and high gears, and to activate your nitro boosts.
Tips
- Save your turbos: You only get three nitro boosts per stage. Wait until you have a clear, straight line to the criminal’s car before deploying one to guarantee a devastating ram.
- Follow the arrows: When the road forks, a flashing arrow indicator will appear on screen. Always follow it, as taking the wrong path will cost you precious seconds.
- Gear shifting is crucial: You must start in low gear to accelerate quickly from a stop, but remember to shift into high gear once you gain speed or you will never catch the suspect.
