Developed by Color Dreams in 1990, Challenge of the Dragon is an unlicensed beat 'em up released for the NES. Players control a knight journeying across seven dangerous worlds to rescue his girlfriend from an evil wizard, fighting off waves of varied enemies like ninjas, dragons, and valkyries. As an early unlicensed title, it is known for its somewhat clunky combat mechanics and distinct Kung Fu game engine.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive the side-scrolling stages using a mix of sword strikes and martial arts. Navigate using the Arrow keys (D-pad), use Z and X to attack and jump (A and B buttons), and press Enter for Start. The Shift key (Select) deploys a blue bomb that damages every enemy currently on the screen.
Tips
- Your character tends to slide upon landing from a jump, so be careful when trying to land precise platforming maneuvers around hazards.
- Save your screen-clearing blue bombs for moments when you are completely overwhelmed by enemies, rather than using them on single targets.
