Game description:

Bust-A-Move ’99 (also known as Puzzle Bobble 64 in Japan) is a classic tile-matching puzzle game released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999. Developed by Taito, it brings the fast-paced, addictive bubble-shooting arcade formula to the home console. Players take control of the series’ iconic dinosaur mascots, Bub and Bob, to fire colored bubbles up the screen and clear the board. A standout feature of this N64 version is its chaotic four-player simultaneous competitive mode, offering excellent multiplayer action alongside traditional puzzle campaigns and a custom level creator.

How to Play

The objective is to clear the board by connecting groups of three or more bubbles of the same color. If the descending bubbles cross the line at the bottom of the screen, the game is over.

  • Aim: Use the D-Pad or Analog Stick to angle your launcher left or right.
  • Fire: Press the A Button to shoot the current bubble.

In the browser emulator, the N64’s D-Pad is mapped to the arrow keys, and the A Button is mapped to X.

Tips

  • Master the bank shot: Bouncing your bubbles off the side walls is essential for reaching tight spots and maneuvering around obstacles.
  • Drop the clusters: Instead of clearing bubbles from the bottom up, look for structural weak points. Popping a group of bubbles near the top that supports others will cause the unattached bubbles below to drop, earning you bonus points and clearing the screen faster.
  • Plan ahead: Always check the indicator that shows your next bubble color so you can set up combos before you even fire your current shot.
