Developed by Taito in 1994, Bust-A-Move is an arcade-style puzzle game for DOS that defined the bubble-matching genre. Instead of managing falling blocks, you control a launcher at the bottom of the screen, firing colored bubbles upward into a descending arrangement of targets.
How to play
The objective is to clear all bubbles from the board before they cross the bottom line. You match three or more bubbles of the same color to pop them. Use the left and right arrow keys to aim your launcher, and press the Spacebar to fire. As you take shots, the ceiling periodically lowers, pushing the bubbles closer to the floor.
Tips
- Use the walls: Bubbles bounce off the sides of the playfield. Bouncing shots off the walls is essential for sliding bubbles into gaps that are blocked from a direct angle.
- Drop clusters: Instead of popping every bubble directly, aim for the bubbles that connect a hanging cluster to the ceiling. Any bubbles left unattached will drop off the board entirely, which saves time and clears the board faster.
