BurgerTime (Japan) (Disk Writer) is the Famicom Disk System release of Data East’s classic 1982 arcade game, published in Japan on September 23, 1988 as a Disk Writer exclusive — sold only by rewriting a disk at in-store kiosks rather than as a boxed retail release. You play as chef Peter Pepper, running across a multi-level kitchen built from platforms and ladders, walking over giant burger ingredients to drop them down and build complete burgers while three hostile foods, Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg, chase you through the maze.
How to Play
The goal on each level is to walk over every ingredient piece — buns, patties, lettuce, tomato — so it falls to the platform below, working your way down until a full burger drops onto the plate at the bottom. Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg pursue Peter Pepper across the platforms; you carry a limited number of pepper shakers that briefly stun any enemy caught in front of you. Move with the arrow keys and use Z to shake pepper.
Tips
- Save your pepper shakers for moments you’re truly cornered — refills are limited, and wasting them early leaves you defenseless later in a level.
- Lure an enemy onto an ingredient piece before you drop it: a squashed enemy is worth bonus points and clears a chaser instantly, no pepper required.
- Clearing ingredients from the top platforms downward tends to cut off pursuit routes, since a dropped piece can block an enemy from following you to the next ladder.
