Game description:

Released in 1980 by Activision, Bridge for the Atari 2600 is a single-player simulation of the classic contract bridge card game. Designed by Larry Kaplan, the software takes on the roles of your partner and both opponents, offering a way to practice hands and bidding strategies without needing three other players.

How to play

The game expects you to already know the rules of contract bridge, focusing entirely on gameplay rather than tutorials. You can navigate your hand and make bids using the arrow keys, pressing the Spacebar to confirm your selection. Use the difficulty switches to toggle between a novice mode, which reveals your partner's hand during bidding, and a pro mode where it remains hidden.

Tips

  • If you are learning the game, stick to the novice mode to see how your partner's hand influences their bidding.
  • Be cautious not to bid at the “8” level; due to a known bug in early versions of the cartridge, doing so will crash the game entirely.
