Game description:

Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a 1993 side-scrolling action platformer developed for the NES by Probe Software and published by Psygnosis Limited. Based on Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film adaptation, the game puts you in control of Jonathan Harker as he travels from the Transylvanian countryside into the depths of Count Dracula’s lair to rescue Mina Harker and put an end to the vampire lord.

How to Play

Guide Harker through side-scrolling stages filled with hostile wildlife, undead creatures, and hazards. Defeat foes using melee slashes or sub-weapons found in chests throughout the levels, navigating daytime and nighttime variations of each stage to reach the boss at the end of each act.

Browser controls map directly to standard NES inputs:

  • D-Pad (Arrow Keys): Move left/right, crouch, or climb ladders
  • A (X key): Jump
  • B (Z key): Attack with current weapon
  • SELECT (Shift key): Cycle selected sub-weapon
  • START (Enter key): Pause game

Survival Tips

  • Attack while crouching: Low enemies like spiders and crawling rats can easily bypass standing attacks. Crouch frequently while attacking to clear low-profile enemies without taking damage.
  • Conserve special weapons for bosses: Items like throwable axes and holy water deal heavy ranged damage. Save your ammo count for boss encounters at the end of each act rather than wasting them on standard minions.
  • Learn boss movement patterns: Bosses such as Dracula’s brides and Count Dracula’s beast forms move in distinct, predictable flight and jump arcs. Dodge first to find your window before stepping in to strike.
