In Boulder Dash, a 1984 action-puzzle classic by First Star Software for DOS, you guide Rockford through underground caves. Your objective is to dig through the dirt, collect a target number of diamonds, and reach the exit before the timer runs out. You must carefully manipulate the environment, as digging under boulders causes them to fall, which can crush you or be used strategically against enemies.

How to play

Use the arrow keys to move Rockford and dig through the dirt. Collecting enough diamonds opens the exit door. You can also grab a diamond or dig a square without moving by holding down the action key (usually Space or Shift) and pressing an arrow key, which is essential for safely retrieving items under unstable boulders.

Tips

Boulders will slip off other boulders or walls if there is empty space next to them, so watch out for unpredictable avalanches. You can use falling boulders to your advantage: crushing a butterfly enemy turns it into nine diamonds, which is often required to meet the quota on later levels.
