Developed by ASCII and released in 1983, Bokosuka Wars is an early precursor to the strategy RPG genre on the NES. You control King Suren and his growing army as they march across a scrolling battlefield to defeat King Ogos. It blends action and strategy, requiring you to manage multiple units simultaneously as you recruit trapped soldiers and navigate dangerous terrain.
How to play
Your objective is to safely guide King Suren to the end of the map and defeat King Ogos. When your units collide with an enemy, combat resolves automatically based on unit strength and a random element. You can move units individually or together as an army.

Tips
- Combat relies heavily on hidden random rolls, so avoid unnecessary fights whenever you can just walk past an enemy.
- Prioritize freeing trapped soldiers and knights from trees and rocks to build up your army’s overall strength before reaching the final boss.
- Keep King Suren protected behind your stronger units; if he falls in battle, it is an instant game over regardless of how many troops remain.
