Blades of Steel is a classic ice hockey game released by Konami in 1988 for the NES. Eschewing strict rules and simulation mechanics, it focuses on fast-paced, arcade-style action where aggressive defense and body checks are highly encouraged.
How to Play
The objective is to outscore the opposing team across three periods of play. The NES D-pad controls your skater’s movement. Use the A button to pass the puck and the B button to shoot when on offense or attempt a steal on defense. In your browser, the D-pad is mapped to the arrow keys, A and B are mapped to the Z and X keys, and Start is mapped to Enter.
Tips
Colliding with an opponent multiple times will trigger a fistfight. Win the brawl by carefully timing your punches and blocks to send the opposing player to the penalty box, granting your team a power play. When taking a penalty shot or shooting on the goalie, aiming for the top or bottom corners of the net is often the most reliable way to score.
