Game description:

BioMetal is a fast-paced, side-scrolling shoot ’em up released for the Super Famicom (SNES) in 1993 by Athena. Players pilot the MF-92GX Halbard fighter against an alien race of half-organic, half-machine creatures. The game stands out from other shooters of the era with its unique “G.A.M.” (Gel Analog Mutant) shield system, which provides both defensive capabilities and a devastating offensive attack.

How to play

Navigate through autoscrolling stages while destroying waves of enemies and dodging dense bullet patterns. The standard SNES controls apply in the browser: move your ship with the arrow keys, use Z and X to fire your primary weapons and deploy the G.A.M. shield, and Enter to pause. Collecting power-ups will upgrade your ship’s weaponry.

Tips

  • Master the G.A.M. shield: You can deploy it to absorb incoming enemy fire or launch it forward to deal massive damage, but keep a close eye on its energy gauge.
  • When the shield is retracted, its energy meter will gradually recharge. Don’t leave it active constantly.
  • Prioritize upgrading a single weapon type that you are comfortable with, rather than constantly switching and losing power levels.
