Game description:

Best of the Best: Championship Karate is a realistic 1992 kickboxing simulator developed by Loriciel for the SNES. Unlike typical arcade fighters of the era, the game requires you to manage your fighter’s career before ever stepping into the ring. You must train at the gym to improve your strength, stamina, and resistance, and manually assign a custom set of martial arts moves to your controller inputs to match your fighting style.

How to Play

The objective is to climb the ranks and win the kickboxing championship by defeating a series of increasingly difficult opponents. Matches are governed by kickboxing rules: you can win by knockout or by scoring more points than your opponent across the rounds. Be careful to avoid illegal moves, as the referee will penalize you.

Default SNES browser controls:

  • D-pad (Arrow Keys): Move, dodge, and block
  • A / B / X / Y (Z / X / A / S): Execute your assigned strikes
  • Start (Enter): Pause

Tips

  • Training is essential: Do not ignore the gym. Boosting your stamina and resistance is critical to surviving the later rounds against tougher opponents.
  • Customize your moveset: Experiment with different move assignments. Find a comfortable combination of high attacks and low sweeps that you can execute reliably.
  • Watch your distance: Spacing is key in this game. Whiffing heavy kicks will leave you open to devastating counterattacks, so close the gap carefully.
