Released for the NES in 1989, The Battle of Olympus is an expansive action-RPG developed by Infinity. Set in ancient Greece, you play as Orpheus on a legendary quest to rescue his beloved Helene from the underworld ruler, Hades. Featuring side-scrolling exploration and combat heavily inspired by Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, the game tasks you with traversing interconnected mythical realms, battling legendary creatures, and earning the favor of the gods to acquire powerful new weapons and items.
How to Play
Your objective is to explore the world of ancient Greece, defeating enemies to earn olives (the currency) and items, while seeking out the gods who will grant you the tools needed to progress. For the NES, use the D-pad to move, A to jump, and B to attack with your currently equipped weapon. You can access your inventory using Start. In your browser, these are mapped to the arrow keys for movement, X for jump, Z for attack, and Enter for Start.
Tips
- Keep your shield raised by standing still or crouching; it automatically blocks incoming projectiles from enemies.
- Slimes and other respawning monsters are great for farming olives, which are essential for buying upgrades from the gods.
- Pay close attention to the hints given by NPCs in towns, as they often point out hidden paths or the locations of essential items.
