Released in 1991 by Sunsoft for the NES, Batman: Return of the Joker is a visually stunning action-platformer that pushes the console’s graphical limits. Unlike its predecessor, this sequel plays more like a run-and-gun shooter. Instead of relying on melee combat, Batman is equipped with a wrist-mounted projectile launcher to blast through waves of enemies and navigate treacherous environments on his mission to defeat the Joker.
How to play
Your objective is to fight through multiple challenging stages, defeating henchmen and powerful bosses. Move Batman using the directional pad (Arrow keys). Press A (X on your keyboard) to jump and B (Z on your keyboard) to fire your weapon. Use Start (Enter) to pause the game.
Tips
- Use the slide move: Pressing Down and Jump simultaneously allows Batman to perform a quick slide. This is essential for dodging high enemy projectiles and slipping under low obstacles.
- Manage your weapons: Collect item drops to switch your projectile type. The Crossbow offers a wide spread, while the Batarang provides a useful boomerang trajectory. Find the weapon that best suits the current stage.
- Charge your shots: Holding down the fire button allows you to charge up a devastating blast that deals massive damage, which is especially useful against tough bosses.
