Batman of the Future: Return of the Joker (released in North America as Batman Beyond) is a 3D beat ’em up action game developed by Kemco and released for the Nintendo 64 in 2001. Based on the acclaimed animated film, players take control of Terry McGinnis, the new Batman, as he battles his way through Gotham City to stop the resurrected Joker and his gang, the Jokerz. The game features traditional side-scrolling brawler combat presented in a 3D environment, where mastering different batsuit transformations is key to surviving the relentless enemy encounters.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate through multiple stages across Gotham, defeating waves of enemies and bosses to ultimately reach the Joker. The original Nintendo 64 controls map directly to your keyboard in the browser: use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to attack (A button), X to jump (B button), and Enter for Start. Use the C-buttons (typically mapped to I, J, K, L) to switch between your different batsuits on the fly.
Tips
- Suit Switching is Essential: Don’t just stick to the standard suit. Use the Offensive suit to dish out heavy damage against tough enemies, and switch to the Defensive suit when you are surrounded and need to block heavy attacks.
- Manage Your Gadgets: Your Batarangs and other special weapons use a shared energy meter. Conserve this energy for tougher encounters or flying enemies that are difficult to hit with standard melee combos.
