Game description:

Bases Loaded 4 is a 1993 baseball simulation released late in the NES lifecycle by Jaleco. As the final 8-bit entry in the long-running franchise, it serves as the most refined version of the series’ signature behind-the-batter perspective. The game features single-player and two-player exhibition modes, alongside a massive 130-game season culminating in a seven-game championship series. It introduces improved player sprites and a dynamic star system that tracks momentum, rewarding standout plays while penalizing errors.

How to Play

The game relies on a classic nine-region strike zone system for both hitting and pitching. In your browser, the default NES controls apply: use the Arrow Keys for directional movement, Z for the B button, X for the A button, and Enter for Start. When pitching, move on the rubber with the arrows and press X to throw, then steer the ball mid-flight. When batting, use the arrows to position your swing in the zone and press X to swing.

Gameplay Tips

  • Watch the momentum: The game tracks performance with a star system. Players who make errors or strike out earn negative stars, significantly dropping their effectiveness. Use your substitutions if a player is slumping.
  • Anticipate the pitch: Because hitting requires you to swing at one of nine specific zones, guessing the pitcher’s location is more reliable than trying to react to fastballs.
  • Check the radar: Fielding relies heavily on the mini-map displayed on the right side of the screen. Keep an eye on it to track the ball’s trajectory and position your outfielders before the ball lands.
