Game description:

Published by Lucasfilm Games in 1985 for the Atari 7800, Ballblazer is a competitive futuristic sports game. Players pilot hovering Rotofoils across a checkerboard grid in a first-person, split-screen view, attempting to capture a floating ball and blast it through the opponent’s goalposts.

How to play

Matches are played one-on-one against either a computer opponent or a second player. The objective is to grab the ball and shoot it into the moving goalposts. The Rotofoil automatically locks onto the ball’s position, snapping your view toward it so you never lose track of the action.

Tips

  • Understand the auto-targeting: When you don’t have the ball, your Rotofoil automatically turns to keep it in view. Use this to orient yourself, but be prepared for sudden 90-degree camera snaps.
  • Shoot from distance: The further you are from the goal when you score, the more points you earn. However, the goalposts narrow as the match goes on, making long shots progressively harder.
  • Push the opponent: If the opposing player has the ball, you can blast it out of their possession by ramming into them or shooting your energy field at them.
