Astro Fang: Super Machine is a vehicular combat racing game released for the NES in 1990 by A-Wave. Set on the desolate planet RS-121, you drive an armed sports car along a treacherous highway known as the Black Line. Rather than just racing to the finish, you must manage your fuel and missile supplies while battling enemy buggies that try to run you off the road. The game features pit stops at roadside repair shops where you can patch up damage and restock your weapons for the journey ahead.
How to play
Your objective is to survive each road and reach the end of the stage without running out of fuel or being destroyed by enemies. Use the D-pad (Arrow keys) to steer, accelerate, and brake. Press the A or B buttons (Z or X) to fire your missiles and fend off hostile vehicles. If the road gets too crowded, you can activate your vehicle’s special transformation to narrow its shape and squeeze through tight gaps, though this disables your weapons until you transform back.
Tips
- Keep a close eye on your fuel and missile gauges; missing a repair shop can leave you defenceless and stranded.
- Don’t waste missiles on every enemy you see. Sometimes it’s safer to dodge or use your car’s narrow transformation to slip past them.
- Watch the progress meter in the bottom left corner to know how far you are from the goal, which can help you decide whether to fight or just focus on surviving.
