🎮 Play Asteroids Online (Atari 7800)

Asteroids is Atari's classic multi-directional shooter, originally released in 1979 and brought to the Atari 7800 with updated, color-shaded visuals and simultaneous multiplayer. As the pilot of a triangular spaceship, your objective is to clear fields of drifting space rock by blasting them into smaller, faster pieces while avoiding deadly collisions and aggressive flying saucers.

How to play

You must destroy all asteroids on the screen to advance to the next wave. Your ship has realistic momentum—thrusting pushes you forward, but you will continue to drift until you turn and counter-thrust. The edges of the screen wrap around, so objects disappearing off one side will reappear on the opposite edge. This Atari 7800 version features a two-player mode where you can share the screen cooperatively or competitively.

Tips

• Avoid holding down the thrust. Use short, controlled bursts to maintain maneuverability and avoid drifting out of control.
• Keep your ship near the center. Hunting down rocks near the edges risks a collision with debris wrapping around from the opposite side.
• Pick off the smaller, faster asteroids first, as they are harder to dodge than the slow, large ones.
