Argos no Juujiken is a Japan-exclusive side-scrolling action platformer released for the Sega Master System in 1988 by Salio (a subsidiary of Tecmo). Better known to Western players as the arcade classic Rygar, this Master System port distinguishes itself by staying true to the arcade original’s linear, fast-paced action rather than the sprawling exploration found in the NES adaptation. Players control a legendary warrior resurrected from the grave, wielding the iconic Diskarmorโa deadly shield on a chainโto battle through a ruined fantasy landscape.
How to play
Your primary objective is to survive five long, continuous stages filled with mythical beasts and challenging boss fights, pushing forward to defeat the evil King Ligar.
- D-pad (Arrow Keys): Move, duck, and climb ropes
- Button 1 (Z): Attack with the Diskarmor
- Button 2 (X): Jump
- Start (Enter): Pause
Tips
- Master the Diskarmor upgrades: You can upgrade your weapon by collecting items from shrines or defeated enemies. The star power-up increases your chain length, while the crown widens your attack area.
- Stomp your enemies: Just like in the arcade version, you can briefly stun many enemies by jumping squarely on their heads, giving you time to attack or reposition safely.
- Grab the sun power: The sun power-up transforms your swing into a straight-firing projectile, making it essential for clearing out rows of enemies from a distance.
