Apocalypse II is an unreleased multidirectional space shooter developed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in the mid-1990s. Originally intended to be published by Psygnosis, the game is a spiritual successor to the 1987 title Mega Apocalypse. It delivers intense, fast-paced arcade action reminiscent of Asteroids, complete with impressive Mode 7 sprite scaling that keeps the screen packed with enemies.
How to Play
The objective is to survive endless waves of incoming enemies and hazards by maneuvering your ship and blasting everything in sight. Since the game relies on standard SNES controls, you will use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) to pilot your ship, while the main action buttons (Z, X, A, and S keys) handle your weapons and thrust.
Tips
If you have friends over, take advantage of the game’s rare 4-player support, originally designed for the SNES Multitap. In single-player mode, always keep movingโlingering in the center of the screen will quickly get you overwhelmed by enemy formations.
