Game description:

All-Star Baseball 99 is an MLB-licensed baseball simulation for the Nintendo 64, published by Acclaim Entertainment in 1998 for the 1999 season. It puts you in charge of real Major League franchises with authentic rosters, letting you pitch, bat, and field your way through exhibition games or a full season in 3D.

How to Play

At the plate, read the delivery and time your swing to make solid contact — swinging too early or too late sends the ball foul or misses entirely. On the mound, select a pitch type from the pitcher’s arsenal and aim the location before releasing. Fielding is largely handled by the game; once the ball is in play your job is to pick the right base and get the throw off in time. In the browser, standard N64 controls apply: arrow keys move your player, Z is the A button (swing / throw / confirm), X is B (bunt / cancel), and Enter pauses the game.

Tips

  • Let the pitch travel. Swinging at the earliest moment produces weak pop-ups; waiting until the ball is deep in the zone gives you more of the plate to cover and more power on contact.
  • Change speed when pitching. Two fastballs set up a curveball perfectly — the batter’s timing is already committed to the faster pitch, so the breaking ball catches them out in front.
  • Prioritise the lead runner. When multiple runners are moving, nail down the runner closest to scoring rather than going for the easy out at first.
