Originally an arcade hit by Sega, Alien Syndrome was brought to the NES in 1989 by Tengen as an unlicensed release. This top-down run-and-gun shooter drops players into infested spaceships to fight off grotesque alien hordes and save captured crew members.
How to Play
Your objective is to rescue a set number of hostages within a strict time limit before the ship self-destructs. Rescuing enough hostages unlocks the exit, leading to a battle against a screen-filling boss. The game uses standard NES controls: the D-pad to move, A and B to fire your weapon, and Start/Select for pausing and menus. In your browser, these map to the Arrow Keys, Z/X, and Enter/Shift.
Tips
- Search carefully for weapon upgrades like lasers and fireballs scattered throughout the ships, as the default blaster is weak against bosses.
- Keep an eye on the ticking timerโprioritize finding the hostages quickly rather than trying to defeat every single enemy.
