Akuu Senki Raijin (often translated as Subspace Chronicles Raijin) is a scrolling shooter developed by Micro Cabin and published by Square in 1988 for the Famicom Disk System. Notable as Square's final release for the disk add-on before transitioning entirely to cartridges, the game stands out by letting you pilot a versatile mecha that dynamically transforms during combat.
How to Play
Your objective is to pilot the “Raijin” mecha through hostile territory, utilizing its unique transformation abilities. You can switch between a walking Land Form for ground exploration and a starfighter Flight Form for aerial dogfights. Use the D-pad (mapped to your arrow keys) to maneuver. Press A and B (mapped to the Z and X keys) to fire your weapons and trigger your transformations. Press Start or Select (Enter and Shift) to pause or make menu selections.
