Akumajou Dracula (known internationally as Castlevania) is a legendary action-platformer developed by Konami, with this cartridge version released for the Famicom (NES) in 1993. You play as vampire hunter Simon Belmont, wielding the iconic Vampire Killer whip as you battle through six punishing stages of Dracula's haunted castle.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive the treacherous platforming and defeat Dracula. The controls map the NES gamepad to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys to move and climb stairs. Press Z to jump and X to attack with your whip. Press Enter to Start. You can collect hearts by whipping candles to power subweapons like axes or holy water; hold Up and press X to use your equipped subweapon.
Tips
- The Holy Water is the best subweapon for boss fights, as it can stun-lock many of them and deal massive, rapid damage.
- You cannot change direction in mid-air once you jump, so time your leaps carefully, especially when dodging erratic enemies like Medusa Heads.
- The Cross (Boomerang) is the best overall subweapon for regular stages since it deals damage both when thrown and on its return flight.
