Game description:

A civil war has broken out in the fictional nation of Zabayral, and it’s up to you to restore order in AirForce Delta. Released by Konami in 2000 for the Game Boy Color, this handheld adaptation (also known as Deadly Skies in Europe) takes the high-flying dogfights of its Dreamcast counterpart and reimagines them as a fast-paced, into-the-screen rail shooter. Playing as a mercenary pilot, you will take on a variety of arcade-style combat missions, earning credits to purchase and upgrade from a roster of over 30 different fighter jets.

How to play

Your aircraft continuously flies forward through enemy territory while you dodge incoming fire and lock onto targets. Use the D-pad (Arrow keys) to steer your jet and aim your reticle. Press A (Z) to fire your main machine guns, and B (X) to launch missiles at locked-on targets. Pay close attention to the mission briefings, as you will need to destroy both air and ground targets to complete your objectives.

Tips for mercenaries

  • Watch your funds: Since you must buy new planes with the money you earn from missions, save up for aircraft that offer noticeably better missile capacity and armor.
  • Keep moving: The pseudo-3D scaling can make it tricky to judge the distance of incoming fire. Stay in constant motion to make yourself a harder target.
