Airball is an isometric puzzle-platformer for the NES. Originally developed by Microdeal for 16-bit computers, this unreleased prototype (Proto2) by Tengen brings the challenging, spike-filled maze to an 8-bit console. You play as a man transformed into a fragile ball of air by an evil wizard, forced to navigate a deadly mansion to find a spellbook and reverse the curse.
How to Play
Your main objective is to explore the rooms, solve puzzles, and survive while constantly leaking air. You must find air pumps to stay inflated, but be careful not to over-inflate and pop. The NES default controls apply: use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) to navigate the isometric environments, and the A and B buttons (Z and X on your keyboard) to jump or use items.
Tips
- Keep a close eye on your air gauge at the bottom of the screen; memorising where the air pumps are located is essential.
- The isometric perspective can make jumps tricky, so use your shadow to line up your landings safely.
- Avoid moving too quickly into unknown rooms, as spikes and sharp enemies can pop you instantly.
