Airball is an unreleased isometric puzzle-platformer for the NES, originally developed by Microdeal and later ported by Novotrade. Players guide a young man who has been transformed into a fragile ball of air by an evil wizard. Set within a massive isometric castle filled with spiked floors, narrow passageways, and tricky jumps, the game challenges you to find the spellbook needed to reverse the curse. Because you are made of air, you must constantly monitor your pressureโtaking too long or hitting hazards will cause you to pop, and you must regularly find air pumps to stay inflated.
How to Play
Your goal is to navigate the castle rooms to locate items and solve puzzles without popping. The isometric perspective requires careful movement. Use the D-pad (mapped to the Arrow keys) to move the ball diagonally through the rooms. Press A (Z key) to jump, and B (X key) to pick up or drop objects. Start (Enter) pauses the game. Be mindful of your air meter, as it steadily depletes over time.
Tips
- Pace your inflation: When using an air pump, do not over-inflate the ball, or it will pop just as easily as when it runs out of air.
- Watch your shadow: In an isometric environment, judging jumps can be difficult. Use the ball's shadow to gauge exactly where you will land.
- Plan your route: You can only hold one item at a time. Bringing the wrong object to a puzzle means backtracking through dangerous rooms.
