Released by Mattel Electronics under the M-Network label in 1982, Air Raiders is an ambitious first-person combat flight simulator for the Atari 2600. Placed directly in the cockpit of a jet fighter, you must defend the skies against waves of enemy aircraft while carefully managing your altitude, ammunition, and fuel reserves.
How to play
Your objective is to shoot down enemy formations while avoiding heavy anti-aircraft fire from the ground. Use the arrow keys to maneuver and tilt your plane, and press the Spacebar or A to fire your cannon. You begin the game on a runwayโpress fire to initiate your departure and pull back on the arrow keys to take off.
Tips
- Watch the position indicator on your instrument panel: the red section marks a heavy flak zone. Flying through it will quickly strip away your altitude.
- Once you secure 10 or more hits, you can return to base to refuel and reload. Descend safely toward the runway and maintain your descent until touchdown.
