Air Fortress is a sci-fi action game developed by HAL Laboratory and released for the NES in 1987. It uniquely blends two distinct styles of gameplay: players begin each level in a horizontal shoot-’em-up sequence approaching a massive space station, before transitioning into an on-foot action-platformer phase to explore and destroy the base from the inside.
How to Play
In both the ship and on-foot sections, use the Arrow keys to move. Press Z to shoot and, while on foot, press X to jump. Press Enter to start or pause the game. Your goal in each stage is to navigate the interior of the fortress, find and destroy its core, and then escape before the base explodes.
Tips
- Your energy acts as both your health and your ammunition for special weapons, so try to avoid unnecessary damage and manage your shots carefully.
- Collect crash capsules and energy tanks during the flying approach phase to ensure you are fully stocked for the tougher platforming sequences inside the fortress.
