Game description:

Aerostar is a scrolling shooter for the Game Boy, developed by Sigma Pro-Tech and published by Vic Tokai in 1991. You pilot a futuristic aircraft that can only fly along fixed roads, moving up and down between lanes to dodge fire and enemies as the screen scrolls past coastal streets, booby-trapped futuristic corridors lined with instant-death spikes, jungle, and finally outer space. Each stage ends with a large boss fight, and three selectable difficulty levels let you tune the challenge.

How to Play

Fly your ship along the road, shifting between lanes to avoid obstacles and enemy fire while shooting down everything in your path. Switching lanes briefly disables your weapon, so time your dodges rather than climbing and diving on reflex. Pick up missile and laser power-ups dropped by enemies to upgrade your firepower before each stage’s boss.

  • Arrow keys โ€” steer your ship between lanes and along the road
  • Z โ€” fire
  • X โ€” secondary action (B button)
  • Enter โ€” Start
  • Shift โ€” Select

Tips

  • Only switch lanes when you need to dodge โ€” you can’t fire while moving between roads, so a lane change at the wrong moment can cost you a hit.
  • Grab weapon power-ups as soon as they appear; going into a boss fight with your base weapon makes an already tough encounter much longer.
  • If the default difficulty feels unfair, drop it a notch โ€” the three difficulty settings change the game meaningfully rather than just padding enemy health.
