Action Fighter is an overhead vehicular combat game released by Sega for the Master System in 1986. Originally an arcade title, it blends fast-paced driving and vertical shoot-’em-up mechanics. You begin the game riding a heavily armed superbike, dodging civilian traffic while fighting off enemy combatants. As you progress, your vehicle can be upgraded into a sports car, and eventually take to the skies as a flying jet or helicopter.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive the scrolling stages while defeating enemy targets. Collect letter pods scattered across the road to spell out “SEGA” and unlock vehicle transformations. Use the D-pad to steer your vehicle or maneuver in the air, Button 1 to fire your primary weapons, and Button 2 to launch special attacks or drop bombs when airborne (these controls are mapped to the arrow keys, Z, and X in your browser).
Tips
- Prioritize collecting the letter pods. Upgrading your vehicle is essential for surviving the tougher enemies in later sections.
- Be careful when navigating tight roads. Crashing into the roadside barriers or civilian cars will destroy your vehicle instantly.
- During the flying sections, enemies will swarm from all directions. Keep moving in continuous, sweeping patterns to avoid being cornered by incoming fire.
