Game description:

Metroid is the foundational 1986 action-adventure game developed by Nintendo, released here in its Japanese Famicom Disk System version. Exploring the cavernous depths of the planet Zebes as bounty hunter Samus Aran, players must hunt down the Space Pirates and destroy the mechanical Mother Brain. This version features the original enhanced audio and save system rather than the password system seen in the Western NES release.

How to Play

Navigate the labyrinthine map, collect power-ups to reach new areas, and defeat bosses to unlock the path to Mother Brain. In your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move and aim, Z to jump, and X to fire. Press Enter to pause (Start) and Shift to select missiles once acquired.

Tips

  • Your beam weapon only travels a short distance initially; prioritize finding the Long Beam early in Brinstar to attack enemies safely.
  • Bombing walls and floors is essential for progression. If you are stuck, drop a bomb in corners or dead ends to reveal hidden passages.
  • Defeating enemies yields health and missile refills. Farm for drops near pipes that continuously spawn smaller enemies before attempting tough boss encounters.
