Game description:

Jikkyou G1 Stable is a horse-breeding and stable-management simulation released for the Nintendo 64 in Japan on April 28, 1999, developed and published by Konami Computer Entertainment Nagoya. Rather than putting you directly in the saddle, the game casts you as a stable owner: you breed thoroughbred bloodlines, train young horses, and enter them into real Japanese G1 races at courses such as Tokyo, Nakayama, Kyoto, and Sapporo, chasing prize money and a champion pedigree.

How to Play

Most of the game plays out through menus — reviewing your stable’s horses, planning training, and choosing which races to enter before watching the results unfold. Navigate menus with the arrow keys, confirm with Z (A button), back out with X (B button), use Shift for the C-buttons/Z-trigger, and Enter for Start. Jikkyou G1 Stable was never released outside Japan, so every menu and text screen is in Japanese; fan-made translation guides exist online for players who want help with the breeding and race-entry screens.

Tips

  • Because the breeding system, not the races themselves, decides most of your long-term success, weigh a horse’s pedigree carefully before pairing bloodlines rather than racing every horse you own.
  • Keep a translation guide on hand for the training and race-entry menus — that’s where the strategic decisions happen, well before a race ever starts.
