White Lion Densetsu (known in North America as Legend of the Ghost Lion) is a turn-based role-playing game developed by Kemco for the Famicom in 1989. Loosely based on a Japanese movie, you play as Maria, a young woman who journeys into the surreal World of Dreams to search for her missing parents after their village is attacked by a legendary white lion. Unlike traditional RPGs, Maria travels alone and does not gain standard experience points or learn spells. Instead, her strength relies entirely on the weapons she equips, and she summons various spirits to fight alongside her in battle using Dream Points.
How to Play
Navigate the overworld, explore dungeons, and engage in turn-based combat to uncover the mystery of the white lion. Use the D-Pad to move around the map and navigate menus. Press A to interact, select menu options, or progress dialogue, and B to cancel actions. Access your main menu with the Start button.
Tips
- Find Miracles to Level Up: You do not gain experience from random encounters. To increase your Hope (Level), Courage (HP), and Dream (MP), you must explore thoroughly to find items called “Miracles” hidden in treasure chests.
- Rely on Spirits: Your combat effectiveness comes from the spirits you summon. Experiment with different summons depending on the enemies you face to make battles manageable.
- Locate Fairy Springs: There are no traditional inns in the game. To recover your health and magic, you must find and use fairy springs scattered throughout the world.
