Game description:

Namco’s Japan-exclusive take on Star Wars for the NES (Famicom) is a notoriously bizarre action-platformer that takes massive creative liberties with the film’s source material. Fully playable here in English, this unique adaptation sees Luke Skywalker wielding his lightsaber across familiar planets, but introduces strange elements like a shape-shifting Darth Vader who transforms into a scorpion or a shark. Combining side-scrolling exploration with first-person Millennium Falcon dogfights, it stands as a fascinating and quirky piece of 8-bit history.

How to Play

Your objective is to navigate hostile environments, rescue your allies, and defeat the boss at the end of each stage. During the space travel sequences, you must survive asteroid fields and shoot down TIE fighters from the cockpit. In the browser, use the Arrow keys to move and crouch, Z to jump, and X to swing your lightsaber. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Your lightsaber can deflect enemy blaster fire if you time your swing perfectly.
  • Collect Force crystals scattered throughout the levels to upgrade your powers, which can grant you abilities like floating or a longer lightsaber reach.
  • Don’t rush during the Millennium Falcon sequences; focus on dodging asteroids first and shooting enemies second to preserve your shields.
