Slalom is a fast-paced downhill skiing game for the NES, released in 1987. Developed by Rare in their very first outing for the console, this classic sports title challenges you to race against the clock down increasingly difficult snowy mountains. You must weave through flags, dodge snowmen and other skiers, and maintain your momentum to cross the finish line before time runs out.
How to Play
Your objective is to complete each mountain course before the timer expires. You earn points by crossing the finish line quickly and pulling off freestyle tricks when going over jumps.
- D-Pad: Steer left or right to avoid obstacles and pass through the slalom flags. Down to crouch and increase speed. Up to slow down.
- A / B Buttons: Jump over obstacles or perform freestyle tricks in the air.
- Start: Pause the game.
Tips
- Master the crouch: Crouching increases your speed significantly but reduces your turning ability. Use it on straightaways to shave off precious seconds.
- Catch some air: Hitting jumps at high speeds will launch you further. Perform tricks while airborne to rack up bonus points, but make sure your skis are straight when you land.
- Pass through the flags: Skiing on the correct side of the flags maintains your speed. Missing them will slow you down and cost you valuable time.
