Game description:

Mission: Impossible is a 1990 action-adventure game developed by Konami and released under their Ultra Games label for the NES. Based on the 1988 television revival, it puts you in command of three IMF agentsโ€”Max, Grant, and Nicholasโ€”as they infiltrate enemy bases to rescue a kidnapped scientist and dismantle a terrorist group known as the Sinister Seven. The game stands out by blending top-down shooting, exploration, and light puzzle-solving, requiring you to actively switch between characters to leverage their unique skills across different environments.

How to Play

Your objective is to navigate enemy-controlled facilities, bypass security systems, and defeat hostiles using the specialized abilities of your three agents. You can swap between them on the fly: Max uses a rifle and explosives, Grant excels in close-quarters combat and electronic lockpicking, and Nicholas specializes in disguises to slip past guards.

  • Move: Arrow Keys
  • Attack / Detonate: Z (B button)
  • Special / Set Explosive: X (A button)
  • Menu / Switch Agent: Shift (Select)
  • Start / Pause: Enter (Start)

Tips

  • Don’t shoot the civilians: In the opening Moscow street level, harming any innocent bystanders will result in an immediate arrest and mission failure.
  • Protect Grant: His lockpicking skills are essential for bypassing many security doors. If he dies, he is gone for the rest of the mission, which can make progress impossible.
  • Rely on stealth: Enemies do not respawn once killed, but triggering surveillance systems will alert more guards. Use Nicholas’s disguises whenever possible to avoid unnecessary firefights.
