Step into the boots of NOVA, the boomerang-wielding hero of Power Blade, a 1991 action platformer for the NES developed by Natsume. Set in the year 2191, Earth’s Master Computer has been taken offline by aliens, and it is up to you to restore it. With a stage select system reminiscent of Mega Man, you can tackle the game’s six challenging sectors in any order before infiltrating the final control center.
How to play
Your objective is to locate the contact in each sector, retrieve their ID card, and defeat the sector boss. Power Blade features multi-directional attacks, allowing you to throw your boomerang in eight different directions.
- Move: Arrow Keys
- Jump: X
- Attack / Throw Boomerang: Z
- Start / Pause: Enter
- Select: Shift
Tips
- Explore thoroughly to find power-ups that increase your boomerang’s range and throwing speed.
- Look out for the Power Suit item. When equipped, it allows you to shoot energy blasts and absorb up to three hits before you lose the suit, giving you a huge advantage during boss fights.
- You can throw your boomerang diagonally to hit enemies positioned above or below you, which is essential for clearing platforms safely.
