Game description:

LHX: Attack Chopper is a flight simulation developed and published by Electronic Arts for DOS in 1990. Players take control of advanced military helicopters, including the titular experimental Light Helicopter, to complete varied combat and escort missions across global theaters like Libya and Vietnam. It stands out for its early 3D polygon graphics and approach to balancing accessible action with technical flight mechanics.

How to play

In each mission, your objective is to navigate to specific waypoints, destroy designated targets, and return to base safely. The game relies heavily on the keyboard: use the arrow keys to adjust your pitch and roll, and +/- or A/Z to control your collective (altitude). Switch weapons using Backspace and fire with the Spacebar.

Control:

Game is conยญtrolยญled by the same keys that are used to playing unยญder MS DOS. For fullยญscreen press ‘Right Alt’ + ‘Enยญter’.

Tips

  • Altitude management is crucial; flying too high makes you an easy target for surface-to-air missiles, while staying low helps you use terrain to mask your approach.
  • Don’t waste your guided missiles on unarmored targets; switch to the chain gun to conserve valuable heavy ordnance for tanks and bunkers.
  • Pay close attention to your radar and threat display to prioritize which anti-aircraft emplacements to take out first before they lock on.
