Game description:

Eliminator Boat Duel is a high-speed powerboat racing game developed by Sculptured Software and released for the NES in 1991. Instead of standard track racing, the game uniquely blends top-down isometric navigation with intense, behind-the-boat third-person perspective segments. You compete one-on-one across hazard-filled waterways, earning prize money to upgrade your vessel while dealing with colourful, trash-talking rivals.

How to Play

Your goal is to win races to earn cash, which you must use to repair hull damage and purchase faster engines, better steering, and more nitros. On the NES, use the D-pad to steer, the A button to accelerate, and the B button to fire your turbo boost. In this browser version, these map to the Arrow keys to steer, X to accelerate, Z for turbo, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Save your nitro: Opponents often get a sudden burst of speed right before the finish line. Keep at least one turbo in reserve for the final stretch.
  • Upgrade strategically: Prioritise buying engine and hull upgrades early in your career; raw speed and durability will win you more early races than high-end steering.
  • Play dirty: Ramming your rival onto dry land, into alligators, or through buoys during the top-down sections is highly effective for securing a lead.
