Arch Rivals – A Basket Brawl! is a two-on-two arcade basketball game released for the NES. True to its subtitle, the game removes fouls entirely, allowing players to punch opponents to steal the ball. Choosing from players with distinct stats and playstyles, you compete in full-court matches where aggressive play is just as important as sinking baskets.
How to Play
The objective is to outscore the opposing team before the timer runs out. Since there are no fouls, knocking down opponents to gain possession is encouraged. On the NES, use the D-pad to move your player (mapped to the arrow keys). Press A (Z) to pass or switch players, and B (X) to shoot or punch. Press Start (Enter) to pause.
Tips
- A well-timed punch is the easiest way to steal the ball; wait for the opponent to approach before striking.
- If you pass the ball to your AI teammate, they will shoot immediately if they are open, making quick passing a strong strategy.
- Watch out for debris on the court, like soda cans and popcorn wrappers, as tripping over them will cause you to drop the ball.
