In Fester’s Quest, an alien invasion has struck the city, and it is up to Uncle Fester to blast his way through the streets to stop them. Released in 1989 by Sunsoft for the NES, this top-down action-adventure shares its engine with Blaster Master but features an overhead perspective. You will explore a sprawling overworld, navigate first-person 3D maze buildings, and encounter other Addams Family members who provide helpful items to aid your mission.
How to play
Your objective is to explore the city, defeat the alien bosses hiding inside the 3D buildings, and eventually destroy the alien UFO. For the NES, the default controls are the D-pad to move, A to shoot your primary weapon, and B to use sub-weapons like TNT. In your browser, these are mapped to the arrow keys for movement, Z to shoot, X to use sub-weapons, and Enter/Shift for Start/Select to access your inventory.
Tips
- Watch what you collect: Defeated enemies drop gun power-ups, but they are not all helpful. Blue icons upgrade your weapon’s power and spread, while red icons downgrade it. Avoid the red ones!
- Map the buildings: The first-person mazes inside buildings are easy to get lost in. Keep track of your turns to avoid walking in circles or hitting dead ends before finding the boss.
- Visit the family: Keep an eye out for other members of the Addams Family in the overworld. Characters like Wednesday and Morticia will provide you with vital items such as Vice Grips to restore your health or Potions to revive you.
