Game description:

Released for DOS by Walt Disney Computer Software in 1990, Disney’s Duck Tales: The Quest for Gold is a unique blend of action and platforming that tasks Scrooge McDuck with out-earning his rival, Flintheart Glomgold. Rather than a traditional side-scroller, the game plays out over a 30-day in-game time limit, challenging you to navigate a world map and complete various mini-games to amass a fortune.

How to play

The objective is to collect more money than Glomgold before the 30 days expire. Each destination features a different style of gameplay, from flying Launchpad’s plane and swinging on jungle vines to exploring maze-like caverns and photographing rare animals. Because this is a DOS game, there is no standard gamepad layout; movement is primarily handled with the arrow keys, while the Spacebar or Enter key controls actions like jumping, swinging, and snapping photos.

Tips

  • Manage your time: Travel time is your most valuable resource. Carefully plan your route across the map, as flying to distant locations costs more of your 30-day limit.
  • Fly safely: Crashing Launchpad’s plane costs you precious time and money for repairs, so prioritize dodging obstacles safely rather than flying aggressively.
  • Caution in the caves: The cavern segments can be treacherous. Take your time when navigating around pits and mummies, as rushing often leads to a quick death and lost days.
