Binary Land is a maze-puzzle game developed and published by Hudson Soft for the NES in 1985. The game puts you in control of two penguin characters simultaneously — one responds to your input directly while the other mirrors it horizontally. Pressing right moves Gurin to the right and Malon to the left; every stage is a puzzle in navigating both at once through corridors and web-spinning spiders to reach the heart-marked reunion point at the top of the screen.
How to play
The goal is to guide both penguins to the meeting point at the top center of each stage. Spiders roam the corridors and spin webs that trap a penguin if touched, costing precious time. Plan your route for both characters before moving — a clear path for one may walk the other straight into danger.
- Arrow keys — move
- X — A button
- Z — B button
- Enter — Start
- Shift — Select
Tips
- Think in two directions at once: the mirrored input means a move that helps one penguin often hinders the other.
- Deal with spiders near the goal first — a web spun close to the meeting point can strand a penguin when you are almost done.
- If one penguin is caught in a web, park the free one safely before working both toward the goal together.
