Game description:

Riverse Kids is an unlicensed Reversi (Othello) board game released for the Super Famicom in Japan in 1996 by EJ Corporation. Instead of a standard digital board game, you play a high-difficulty match against an anime-style opponent named Mirika across two difficulty settings. Because the game’s AI is relatively simple, it introduces a unique “Attack Chance” mechanic that allows the CPU to occasionally flip your pieces out of turn to compensate, making matches surprisingly unpredictable.

How to Play

The objective is the same as classic Reversi: place your pieces on the board to sandwich your opponent’s pieces, flipping them to your color, and end the game with the majority of the board under your control. Use the D-pad (mapped to the arrow keys) to move your cursor across the grid, and press the A button (typically X) to place a piece. You can only place a piece if it captures at least one of your opponent’s pieces.

Tips

  • Control the corners: Just like in physical Reversi, securing the four corner squares is critical, as pieces placed there can never be flipped.
  • Prepare for the Attack Chance: Since the CPU can artificially flip your pieces using its unique handicap mechanic, try to keep a solid cluster of pieces in the center rather than spreading out too early, minimizing the damage when the AI breaks the rules.
