Klax is a fast-paced puzzle game released by Tengen Inc. for the Atari 7800 in 1989. In this colorful arcade classic, you must manage a steady stream of colored tiles tumbling down a conveyor belt. By catching them with your paddle and dropping them into the bins below, you score points by matching three or more tiles of the same color in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

How to play

Your objective is to complete the specific goals of each stage, such as clearing a certain number of lines (a “Klax”) or surviving a set number of tiles. Move your paddle along the bottom edge to catch approaching blocks and press the drop button to arrange them into the grid. If your paddle gets full or you let too many tiles fall off the belt, it is game over. Use the arrow keys to move left and right, Z or X to drop tiles, and Enter to pause the action.

Tips

Try to build diagonal lines whenever possible, as they award significantly more points than vertical or horizontal matches. You can hold up to five tiles on your paddle at once, which is essential for reorganizing incoming colors and dropping them exactly where you need them. If the conveyor belt starts moving too slowly for your liking, you can push the up arrow to speed up a tile’s descent.
