Awakening in the jungle of Titan with no memory, you are Conrad B. Hart, an agent for the Galaxia Bureau of Investigation on the run from shape-shifting alien mutants. Released for the Super Nintendo in 1994, Flashback: The Quest for Identity is a celebrated cinematic platformer known for its fluid, rotoscoped animation and grounded, methodical gameplay.
How to Play
Unlike traditional run-and-gun platformers, movement in Flashback is deliberate and requires precise timing. Use the D-pad to walk, run, and aim your gun. Pressing A draws or holsters your weapon, while Y fires. B is used to jump, and X lets you use inventory items. In the browser, these map to the Arrow Keys for movement, X (A button), Z (B button), A (Y button), and S (X button). Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Always draw your gun before entering a new screen if you suspect enemies are nearby; the combat is fast, and drawing takes precious frames.
- You have a personal force field that absorbs a few hits. You can recharge it at specific energy terminals found throughout the levels.
- To perform a running jump over wide gaps, start running and press the jump button just before the ledge. Practice this in the first jungle area.
